Building Communuity Assets
Our Theory of Change and Transfortion:
At Black Community Board MN (BCB), our vision of "systems transformation" drives every program, partnership, and action we take. We focus on reshaping social and health determinants within our community through Positive Youth Development, Cultural Stewardship, and Intergenerational Collaboration. Our work is about creating sustainable impact—empowering individuals, strengthening communities, and transforming systemic conditions to improve lives for generations to come.
Key Areas of Transformation
Housing Stability
We work to stabilize the lives of young people by connecting them to essential resources, helping secure safe housing, and providing ongoing support. Through mentorship, resource navigation, and partnerships with housing providers, we aim to reduce homelessness and housing insecurity, empowering participants to build secure foundations.Economic Growth
Through financial literacy programs, career readiness support, and access to entrepreneurship resources, we actively build pathways for economic empowerment. By increasing financial viability and community assets, BCB fosters a culture where participants gain independence and contribute to the economic vitality of their neighborhoods. We measure success by the tangible growth in individual financial health and overall community assets.Personal and Professional Satisfaction
We understand that transformation is also about fulfillment. By supporting personal and professional growth, we strive to ensure that program participants find joy, purpose, and satisfaction on their journeys. Through mentorship, skills-building, and life coaching, we cultivate environments where participants feel empowered and proud of their accomplishments.Health and Wellness
Holistic well-being is at the core of our mission. We promote community wellness initiatives and partner with health providers to support participants’ physical, mental, and emotional health. By nurturing wellness, we aim to create resilient communities where individuals are equipped with resources for a balanced and healthy life.
Our Programs
Positive Youth Development Program
We empower youth with skills, knowledge, and confidence to become leaders and advocates. Our workshops, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities build foundational skills, fostering self-discovery and agency. Participants leave the program with the tools to engage actively in civic life and create positive change.Cultural Stewardship Initiative
Celebrating and preserving cultural identity is central to BCB’s work. Through arts, storytelling, and historical education, we create spaces where young people learn about their heritage, develop cultural pride, and gain a sense of purpose. By grounding participants in their roots, we prepare them to advocate for and lead within their communities.Intergenerational Collaboration Program
Our intergenerational model pairs young leaders with community elders and mentors, creating a reciprocal environment for learning and growth. This approach preserves wisdom and traditions while fostering mutual respect and shared vision. By bridging generations, we build networks of support that strengthen both individuals and the community as a whole.HBCU Scholarship Program
We believe that educational opportunities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) play a vital role in empowering Black youth. Our emerging scholarship program provides financial support for Twin Cities students pursuing higher education at HBCUs, fostering academic growth and connection to rich cultural traditions.Community Wellness Partnerships
Through partnerships with local health providers and wellness organizations, we support holistic health for our participants. We connect young people with services such as mental health resources, fitness programs, and community health initiatives, ensuring they have access to a network of care that promotes long-term wellness.
Together, these programs form a cohesive strategy for systems transformation, addressing the social determinants of health, wealth, and opportunity. At BCB, we believe in building a legacy of empowered leaders, healthy communities, and a resilient future—one where our collective strength is the foundation of change
